Charlotte, NC — serving clients nationwide
I prepare your return myself, and I quote the price before I start.

Nottingham CPA PC is one person. Bachelor's and master's in accounting from the University of Florida, a law degree from Florida State, a CPA license, and the longer version of all that. No account manager, no seasonal preparer, no handoff in March. You send documents to me, and the answers come back from the person who signed the return.
I work out of Charlotte and take clients across the country. IRS practice rights are federal, so a CPA can prepare federal returns and represent taxpayers before the IRS regardless of which state issued the license. CPA mobility covers the state side.
Doctors are the largest part of this practice
Physicians and dentists arrive in three shapes whose problems barely overlap. The employed physician on a hospital W-2, who cannot deduct the CME, the license renewal, or the loupes, because TCJA suspended unreimbursed employee business expenses. The practice owner running payroll and filing an 1120-S. The group partner who got a K-1 instead of a paycheck, had nothing withheld all year, and owes the tax in four estimated payments due April 15, June 15, and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027.
That last one has a timing problem built into it. The partnership return is not due until March 16, so the K-1 often lands with a few weeks left before April 15. April is a bad month to find out what you owe.
Engineers are the second group. The questions there run to whether a contract should be taken as W-2 or 1099, how equipment gets treated, and what a project that touched three states does to a return. Both groups have their own page: medical and engineering.
How people describe the problem
Almost nobody arrives asking for a service by name. They arrive with a sentence. If one of these is yours, the matching page is under services.
- I got a K-1 this year and nothing was withheld
- I moonlighted on a 1099 and I have no idea what to set aside
- There is a letter from the IRS sitting on my counter
- My books and my tax return don't agree with each other
- I worked in three states last year
- I haven't filed in a couple of years and I'd like to stop thinking about it
Services
Everything your taxes and books need, in one place.
Most people need two or three of these working together. The point of one person doing all of it is that the return knows what the bookkeeping did.

I don't bill by the hour
The fee is flat and quoted before I start. What separates it from most flat fees is where the number comes from. Most flat-fee firms set it by feel, an experienced preparer's sense of what a return like yours usually runs. Mine comes from a complexity score built out of countable things: income sources, states filed, schedules and forms required, entities involved, transaction volume, foreign accounts, and how much prior-year cleanup is sitting in front of the current year.
You get that estimate in writing before any work begins. When the return is finished and the real complexity is confirmed, the price settles against the same scale. It can move up or down, and you see the reason before you see the number. Pricing shows what pushes a score in each direction.
A flat fee covers the scope in the engagement letter. If two years of books have to be rebuilt before the 2025 return can be filed, that is separate work with its own estimate, agreed in writing before I touch it.
Five steps, and you can see which one you're on
Engagement letter
Scope and price in writing, signed electronically. Nothing begins before this.
Questionnaire
A structured pass through your year, so the follow-up list is short instead of endless.
Tasks and questions
The documents I still need and the questions I still have, in one place instead of scattered down an email thread.
Review and sign
You read the finished return, ask about anything on it, and sign once you're satisfied with the answers.
Invoice
The final price against the same scale you saw in step one, with the reason for any movement shown.
Every step shows Not Started, In Progress, or Complete, with a progress bar telling you three of five are done. It runs in Tax Nucleus, which also holds a document vault organized by tax year, household accounts so a spouse's return sits under the same login, and an AI research assistant called Ask NucleI that answers tax questions with sources you can expand and check yourself. Documents never travel as email attachments.
The public client login is still being finalized, so existing clients coordinate through the contact form for now. The portal page walks through what is in there.
Where the law degree earns its keep
Most returns do not need one. Some do. Those turn on a legal test rather than a number you plug in: whether a locum physician's tax home has actually moved, what the partnership agreement says about the allocation on your K-1, whether a position would survive examination and what the written argument for it looks like.
As a CPA I can represent you before the IRS under a power of attorney, Form 2848, from a CP2000 notice about a 1099 that never made it onto the return through a full examination. This is a CPA practice, not a law firm, and I am not acting as your attorney. The training means the legal question underneath a tax position does not go unnoticed. IRS problem resolution has the detail.
Hunter did my taxes last year. Super professional, straightforward, prompt, and fair. I will never do my own taxes again.
I came over to Nottingham after being with another CPA for many years. The transition was very smooth, and I love the personal attention I get from Hunter.
Who I work with
Two fields I know from the inside.
Specialization is not a marketing label here. It means having seen the same situation dozens of times and knowing where the money and the mistakes actually are.
Tax work for physicians and dentists
Medicine is the largest share of my client base, and the return looks nothing alike depending on whether you are employed, own the practice, or hold a partnership interest.

When you should not hire me
If your return is one W-2 and the standard deduction, good software will handle it correctly for a fraction of what I charge, and I will tell you that on the call rather than after you have paid me. Same answer if what you need is a bookkeeper, or if you want someone to take an aggressive position and not ask questions about it. The fit page spends most of its length on who this does not work for.
The work here is judgment, not data entry. Several income sources, an entity or the decision about whether to have one, multiple states, a notice, a year that looks nothing like last year. If you want to see where you land before we talk, the current brackets and standard deduction are in the tax center.
The first conversation costs nothing
Tell me what your year looked like and I will tell you what it takes to do it properly, roughly what that costs, and whether you need me at all. No charge, no obligation, no follow-up sequence afterward. One person is a hard ceiling, so if I do not have room to give your return the time it needs, you will hear that on the call instead of in May.
On timing: if your documents are in by mid-March, April 15 is comfortable. Start later than that and a new engagement usually means Form 4868, which moves the filing deadline to October 15, 2027 and moves nothing else. Anything owed is still due April 15 and interest runs from that date. Extensions are ordinary. They are better chosen than discovered.
There is no phone number or email address anywhere on this site, and that is deliberate. Published contact details end up on scraper and robocall lists. How documents and access are handled is written out, and the contact form is the way in.
